I decided to walk home from work today. I had been feeling a bit restless all afternoon and figured it would be a good way to burn off some energy.
I started in the Annex, amongst students and pubs and coffee shops. On my way I stopped at the wine rack to pick up a bottle of white. I was originally only planning on walking for 5 minutes but the night was so nice that i just kept going. A few errant flakes were falling as I walked through Korea town, past a couple stooped and wrinkled old men discussing life outside a restaurant. I lost myself in my music and the cadence of my steps and soon I was past the park and passing the Lebanese men smoking outside their sports bar.
It seems that in Toronto every nationality has their own sports bar, places where middle aged men can drink and smoke and talk in their own tongue.
I walked past a well dressed couple arguing on the sidewalk. She was angry, he was defensive. Her hands were free, his were full of shopping bags. They glanced at me as I walked by then continued their heated discussion.
Relentless, yes its true.
My motor mouth, runs over you
Tegan and Sara . . . such a great album.
The snow continued to drift softly down and the sky grew quickly darker; my steps took me past the laundromat where inside the girl sat on the dryer as the guy tried his best to sweet talk her. Next door at 'Wow Spa', the vietnamese manicurist cleaned the floor.
Before I knew it I was home, the heat of the house a welcome change from the chill air outside.
I'm glad I wasn't in a hurry tonight.
