a new age

I had a birthday.

Parties and such, bleary-eyed breakfast/brunch

It wasn't much.

But in the end i was glad for its simplicity, its non birthday feel with just a few people close to me.

And now, a day in to my new year I already feel at home with it. New sunglasses have been ordered, a burger has been consumed and a cigar smoked in good company. Not just any cigar either, a cigar straight from Cuba, straight from the worn hands of the tobacco farmer who rolled it for a sister who knew I'd appreciate it.

And now with Emily Haines whispering her lyrics to a minor-keyed piano soundtrack I sit and think of bed. I will stay up a bit longer, I want to enjoy the last minutes of the first day of my new age, my new year of living.

Its young and fresh and exciting.
